Custom UI Reminder
Return to TopSubmit News!Comment on this article
GeneralNews - 2:21 PM PDT
If you are experiencing problems when you try to play EQ it might be because when the game was patched last night it updated some of the UI Files. But they were only updated in the default directory. So to prevent problems you need to copy the following files from default into your other UI Folders:
EQUI.xml
EQUI_ActionsWindow.xml
EQUI_Animations.xml
EQUI_BazaarSearchWnd.xml
EQUI_BazaarWnd.xml
EQUI_OptionsWindow.xml
EQUI_SelectorWnd.xml
EQUI_SkillsWindow.xml
EQUI_SocialEditWnd.xml
EQUI_TextEntryWnd.xml
EQUI_TrainWindow.xml
gemicons02.tga
SIDL.xml
window_pieces02.tga
That should fix some of the problems you are having if you have your own skin. More info can be found here. Good Luck!

New Ranger Guide
Return to TopSubmit News!Comment on this article
The Ranger - 8:12 PM PDT
The first installment of a comprehensive guide to the armor and weapon quests available to new rangers has just been posted in the Ranger Portal. If you're a wood elf working on your ranger newbie quests, or are considering starting a career with the Faydark's Champions, then go take a look at this guide.

Other sections of this guide, detailing the item recipes, statistics, and tips for hunting the materials you'll need, will be added for the other ranger races soon. Ilmarinen the ranger is even now working with Megosh Thistlethorn and the rest of the Storm Reapers of Rivervale to gather information about the halfling ranger quests. When his work there is finished, he'll depart immediately for Surefall Glade.

If you'd like to help, if you have completed some or all of these quests, you're quite welcome to email any information you might have—item statistics and resource-gathering tips would be most appreciated—to anchor@stratics.com. You will, of course, receive full credit in the finished guide.

Thanks, and good hunting to you!

The Druid Portal

The Druid - 9:24 AM PDT
Cresting yet another hill, rounding yet another tree, you find yourself erupting into a clearing in the middle of the dense forest behind the Stratics complex which you’ve been jogging through for hours. The sudden sunlight is blinding and you throw your hands up to shield your eyes while they adjust to the glare. The odd yet familiar scent of mana flows into your nostrils…

In the midst of the clearing, a stone circle emits the quiet hum of hidden power. A group of elves and humans turn their heads at your noisy entrance and, though taking careful notice of you, seem unsurprised by your presence. A nearby wolf growls quietly, silenced gently by one of the elves who scratches it behind the ears before approaching slowly. A wood-elf of slight build, his blue eyes and their piercing gaze flow over you. A wise grin crosses his face…

Greetings, traveler. Welcome to this, our haven – the Druid Portal.

Here I hope to help provide the wisdom of ages of nature. To give insight to the knowledge that spans both the elder races and the younger. That of our deities and my brothers and sisters. That of the Druids.

Please feel free to explore this Portal and add to this wisdom. Come and visit our community and share stories or your own insight!

If I can help in any way, please feel free to contact me . I serve as a guide for this realm.

Enjoy your stay!

Calling all Gnomes!

Fironia Vie - 8:14 PM PDT
Gneen asked us to remind you guys about his event on Fironia Vie server:
Calling all Gnomes to the Firiona Vie Server!
July 30th ... 7:00 Central Time
Roll up a Gnome and Help Defend Ak'Anon!

Background:

Baron Apep (Leader Ebon Storm; Dark Elf) has married
Charizma Silvertongue (Officer Tinker's Pride; Gnome) and
they are now Mr. and Mrs. Sadisticdream. However, all is not
well and the Baron has now vowed to destroy Ak'Anon - the homeland
of his bride - on the Firiona Vie Server Tuesday July 30th at 07:30 CST.

Apep's Plan (and much discussion about what is valid RP!):

The Epic Poem (with links to background):
http://pub94.ezboard.com/ffirionaviefrm10.showMessage?topicID=365.topic

The Defense Plan:

We gnomes have little hope of defending our homeland without
a lot of help from other lands and races. If you've never visited the
Firiona Vie server, roll up a gnome and start him in Ak'Anon
in time for the fun. If nothing else, you'll help Verant load test!
(And if you know where to find Byg Bynn - bring him along!)

Thanks for your consideration.

Why Play a Tradesmen?
Return to TopSubmit News!Comment on this article
CommunityNews - 6:37 PM PDT
Paperboy sent us an email about an interesting article about why people play tradesmen in MMOGs:
MMOGs are fascinating because they appeal to very different communities of players, each with their own interests and playstyles. Nothing could be more different than, say, spending an evening raiding towns and dungeons with your PvP guild, or spending an evening at an ingame gathering with riddle games and poetry recitals with your roleplaying guild – and yet you could do either thing, according to taste, in the same game.
It talks about UO a lot but can be applied to the profession in general. Go here for the full article.

Don't Be Shy
Return to TopSubmit News!Comment on this article
GeneralNews - 8:59 PM PDT
Absor had posted on the forums recently at The Mage Compendium about recent exploits:
The best way to get a bug fixed is to tell us about it.

The best way to ruin a game is to post game-breaking bugs publically.

I've been here all day, and nobody has sent me any sort of detailed method for selling no-drop items. If you've got it, send it, we'll fix it.

If you think that posting such bugs publically is a good thing, then you might want to consider playing single player games, where you won't be as likely to mess the game up for other people.

Yes, some bugs get lower priority than others. Sure, the bug that is most annoying to a certain class or specific play style might be a while in fixing. But comparing a bit of bad spell stacking to a bug that has the potential of ruining the game is pretty silly. I'm sorry that we can't fix bugs at the speed of light, I wish we could.

But then just this morning on this very board I read about people complaining that we DID fix a bug...

Anyhow, if anyone actually thinks that no-drop stuff can be sold let me know and tell me how. Please.

Alan
So instead of publically ranting about exploits just tell Verant about them. O..and the rumor about trading no-drop items is false.

New Dragon On Kunark

GeneralNews - 5:29 PM PDT
This is the following message that went across all servers around 6:00 Pm PST:
You feel a chill travel up your spine and the hair on the back of your neck stands on end as an acient evil passes through and beyond you, carried by a clammy decrepit breeze. "Ith~ee~oh~sar..." it whispers in a hollow voice tainted with vengance. A foul and wretched mist settles over the swamp as an ancient and vile evil is embodied here.
Reports are that there is a level 63+ giant dragon with about 6 level 55 guardians in Swamp of No Hope. It is also rumored he is KoS. The dragon's name is "Ithiosar the Fallen". Some say it is a new mob and some say it's just a quest event. Stay tuned for more info.

UPDATE: It appears it is a new permanent dragon in SoNH. It procs a pretty good sized Disease based DoT also. When it is killed, a transparent form of itself reappears named "Ithiosar the Black". One report of the loot is that it is "decent".
UPDATE #2: The 2nd Dragon was much harder than the first and it depopped on a few servers but Antonius Bayle brought him down. Word is that the loot was good. Most think that the dragon is GM triggered but not GM controlled. Congrats Antonius Bayle!

EverQuest Newsletter

GeneralNews - 7:16 PM PDT
This month's EverQuest Newsletter is here! Check your inbox. Here's what Absor had to say:
Hello all,

Welcome to another issue of the Harpy's Head Herald. Thanks for reading.

As usual, it's been pretty busy around here. We've just finished showing off Planes of Power at E3, our programmers are building you all a new interface, and our artists and designers are building zones and NPCs for the Planes of Power. No rest for the weary here.

At the same time, we're also updating starting quests and newbie zones. Just recently we revamped the cities of Freeport and Ak'Anon to add a lot of new content for new characters. We've even done some work on Qeynos that we haven't really announced yet. Not even that was enough, however. We've also added over 1,000 new trade skill recipes for all levels of skill and added over 150 focus effects to existing items.

Of course, we also launched a new service that allows EverQuest players to change their character's first names for a special fee, and the Vice President of Customer Service also announced a new "global queue" system to better facilitate in-game customer service.

And our web folks (the ones that bring you this fine publication) haven't been resting either. Not only have they completely revamped the EverQuest Live site to make it prettier and much more accessible, they've also updated the Planes of Power site, created the EverQuest II site and the EverQuest Online Adventures site.

Maybe I sound a little too excited, but I have to admit that I can't wait to see what we do next. :)

New Story on PoP Site
Return to TopSubmit News!Comment on this article
GeneralNews - 7:10 PM PDT
Along with some new screenshots, the Planes of Power website has been updated with a new story:
Karana sat quietly contemplating the recent turn of events. His head and his heart had been tormented for some time, mulling over the possibilities that lay before him. He had largely avoided directly affecting the destinies of mortals in the past. Even the influence of Bertoxxulous on his namesake plains on Norrath did not draw any action from the Rainkeeper. This is somehow different though. The influence of the pantheon has already reached far beyond any bounds they reached in the past. But of course, the birth of a new demi-god would have that effect. Karana could feel the inevitable tugging at his being toward intervention. But the Rainkeeper does nothing out of reflex or rage. This problem must be meditated upon before any sort of action could be taken, and time was something he had plenty of for the moment.

Serverwide Chat Channels
Return to TopSubmit News!Comment on this article
GeneralNews - 6:59 PM PDT
Many players noticed that you can now join chat channels on different servers. Scott Hartsman commented on this:
Yes - Cross Server chat is something that was done intentionally - At no small amount of work for both our development and ops teams, for that matter.

The reason that it wasn't announced is because in order to allow this, we had to change around the chat systems quite a bit. We needed a few days of measuring what would happen with existing channel chat under the new arrangement as a proof of concept.

If that blew up before anyone was chatting globally, we'd have known that we had more work to do. :)

The other reason that it wasn't advertised yet -- As it stands, people have the ability to spam (and in some cases, are spamming) cross-server without any of the standard in-game repercussions. (i.e. If you're a jerk: I won't group with you, my guild won't help you, etc.) That definitely wasn't part of the plan, and we'd hoped to have that addressed before it was released.

Over the next few days, we'll be adding more controls that allow people to keep their channels and private messages local to their servers, among other things.
Looks like a neat change.

The EverQuest Character Transfer Service, a value added service, is now allowing players to transfer characters from PvP servers to non-PvP servers.

Key points to this service change include:

Characters may be moved between one of your accounts to one of your other accounts on the following servers: Sullon Zek ,The Test Server and Firiona Vie. Movement to or from these servers will not be allowed.
Moves from a PVP Server (Rallos Zek, Tallon Zek and Vallon Zek but excluding Sullon Zek) to a non-PVP server are permitted, with the character's pvp switch set to non-pvp status.
Moves from a non-PVP Server to a PVP server (Rallos Zek, Tallon Zek and Vallon Zek but excluding Sullon Zek) are permitted, with the character's pvp switch being set PVP status.

Bard AA Clarification
Return to TopSubmit News!Comment on this article
The Bard - 5:29 PM PDT
Absor posted the following in the EQ Developers Corner:
Ok, here’s what happened with Instrument Mastery.
Though this seems obvious to me, I want to make it clear how this was supposed to work.

Singing Mastery is designed to improve the bard’s ability to sing songs.

Instrument Mastery is designed to improve the bard’s ability to play instruments.

Now there is a bit of possible confusion when we start talking about songs that are instrument based when the bard is not using an instrument. At that point the bard is singing and instrument song, and it really becomes a matter of taste as to whether Singing Mastery or Instrument Mastery should apply. We’ve decided to base it on the skill used, not whether an instrument is in hand. So Singing Mastery applies to all Singing skill based songs and Instrument Mastery applies to all instrument based songs, whether or not the bard is using an instrument at the time.

No, these two abilities were never meant to overlap. It was a bug when Instrument Mastery gave a bonus to songs that use the Singing skill.

That bug was fixed this patch. Instrument Mastery no longer affects songs that use the Singing skill.

What we’ve decided to do is increase the amount that Singing Mastery affects Singing skill songs by 50%. That should go in the next time we patch.

I’m sorry for not catching this in the patch message. Basically because this was the way it was always intended to be, we were not aware that we’d fixed a bug.

Gem Colors Explained
Return to TopSubmit News!Comment on this article
GeneralNews - 5:25 PM PDT
With the new UI, the color of the spell gems have been changed:
With all of the new spell gems and with the change to the interface, it seems inevitable that we’d get a few spell icons or a few gem colors crossed.
For example, I hear that Nektulos Portal has the Gate spell icon. We might want to change that to match the other group teleport spells.

And Pillar of Frost seems to have an orange spell gem and it should probably be green.

Here’s a list of the gem colors and what they should mean, for reference:

Yellow: Personal - spells that you can only cast on yourself.
Red: Single Target - spells that affect (and require) a single target.
Blue: Point Blank Area of Effect - spell affects an area centered on the caster, but the caster is unaffected.
Green: Area of Effect - spell affects targets in the area centered on the target.
Orange: Area of Effect Rain - spell affects the area around the target, often in a continuing fashion.

The distinction between Green and Orange is pretty narrow.

So if you see something like this let me know (just reply to this thread). I’ll gather a list.

Thanks.

Alan
Hopefully, that will remove some of the confusion.

The Monk - 1:12 AM PDT
A cool breeze weaves its way through the high mountainous peaks, refreshing the body as well as the mind. It was a long climb, but you've finally reached the summit, and gaze upon the Temple grounds and surrounding gardens for the first time.

All is quiet here, save the sound of wind chimes hanging in an opened window. The strong smell of blooming flowers chase away the woodland scents, now far below you. In the distance you see a man fast approaching, drapped in long brown robes.

Greetings, stranger.. I bid you welcome here. I'll be your guide and am known as Brother Khamon, of the Ashen Order. Aye, we are a long ways from Freeport, Grasshopper. Shall we begin?

Hey, there! Welcome to the EQS Monk Class Portal! Here you'll find updated Monk News, Guides, and More! I'll be adding more guide content soon and perhaps some of you will write a few of your own. The Staff is always looking to make improvments on the site, so if you have any suggestions I would love to hear them! I can be reached here, or settle yourself into our very own Monk Forum! I can also be found on the Rodcet Nife server as the Monk, Khamon Dhar'ken.

The huge popularity of the online adventure game Everquest is causing problems for some players keen to complete key tasks for the characters they control.

Characters in Everquest assume a profession while adventuring in the online world. As they travel, complete tasks and defeat monsters they accrue experience making them more skilled in their chosen profession.

Whether they choose to be a warrior, thief, wizard or priest, all have the chance to complete an epic quest that rewards them with a hugely powerful magical item.

Wood Elf Newbie Quests Have Arrived!
Return to TopSubmit News!Comment on this article
The Ranger - 3:36 PM PDT
That's right, at long last the Fier'Dal have their own set of newbie armor quests! Young wood elf rangers need but speak with Samatansyn Flamecaller in the Faydark's Champions guild hall for instructions for the crafting of Trueshot Chainmail. Doubtless the other wood elf classes have their own armor quests as well, so all new elves should check their guild halls straight away!

Additionally, Cerila Windrider in the Faydark's Champions hall has new information regarding mithril boned leather, mithril chainmail, a new Faydark Bow, and new Faydark Arrows, for the more advanced rangers. As you've probably already guessed, these require mithril ore, so they'll be a tad pricey for the younger rangers.

Patch Server Congestion
Return to TopSubmit News!Comment on this article
Game Patch - 3:18 PM PDT
Many people, as well as myself, can not even connect to the patch server to get the new patch. EverQuest CastersRealm spoke to Scott Hartsman about it:
It seems that a lot of people cannot connect to the servers, or cannot patch etc.

Is it still just congestion? Any suggestions I can give them besides waiting?

It's still all congestion.

You're right - This is an amazingly heavy update, between the UI and jaggedpine.

The best advice I can give is to disable the Optional files patching and patch those tomorrow. That'll make it a bit easier to get into the game.

Also is there any word on what is causing the crash bugs? Is a follow-up patch planned at all?

One file didn't make it to the patcher. With the patchers loaded the way they are, getting this one file re-updated is taking a while.

Our ops folks are working feverishly on it, if it's not already fixed.

No followup downtime appears to be required -- It's just the 'get this one more graphic file to the patcher.'

Scott Hartsman
Technical Director, EverQuest

So just hang tight gang. Hopefully the wait will be worth it.

How To Fix Problems With New UI
Return to TopSubmit News!Comment on this article
Game Patch - 3:13 PM PDT
Victor Watcher posted in the Technical Help Forum about crashing to desktop with the /newui command:
If you are crashing to desktop after using the /newui command and cannot log back in without crashing, open up your eqclient.ini (located in your EverQuest directory - typically C:\Program File\EverQuest, C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest or C:\Program Files\Sony\EverQuest Trilogy) file and change the line that reads NewUI=TRUE to NewUI=FALSE. We are making the Dev-Team aware of the issue and we will address it in some way.
Hopefully this will be fixed soon.

Patch Updates
Return to TopSubmit News!Comment on this article
Game Patch - 3:07 PM PDT
Absor has posted a few updates about the patch in the EQ Developers Corner:
We forgot to include a comment in the patch message about the removal of the 10% healing penalty for non-clerics. The penalty was indeed removed with this patch.
Also, while we’ve included the new ‘old-world’ Vah Shir models in the patch, you won’t be able to turn them on yet. We’ll have to patch another file to allow you to choose to turn them off in the interface. That should happen soon.
Also, a note on pets:
For those of you with characters that summon pets, we are aware of the problem with pets. Currently they are not being summoned at their highest level. Sorry for the problem, we’ll get it fixed as soon as we can.
Stay tuned for more updates!

Patch Day!
Return to TopSubmit News!Comment on this article
The Ranger - 8:50 AM PDT
Get ready to stare at a progress bar, folks: it's patch day! There are two much-anticipated patches to download today, one that includes the new user interface and the Luclin Bazaar, and another that brings Jaggedpine Forest, one of the Legends zones, to Live servers. Both are immense downloads, so be prepared to be patient.

There isn't much of specific interest to rangers in the default patch, just a notice that Shissar-Bane Bows should now be functioning properly. The new user interface and the long-awaited appearance of something useful to do in the Bazaar, however, should make rangers just as happy as everyone else. The patch message gives instructions for getting both of these working:

To activate the new interface:

* Log into the game.
* Type /newui into the chat bar and hit enter.
* Log out and exit to your desktop and then log back in.

or

* Before you log in:
* Open the EQclient.ini file in your EverQuest folder with a text editor (notepad works fine)
* Find the [Defaults] section of the file
* Add a line that reads: NewUI=TRUE
* Log in

And for the Bazaar:

/bazaar opens up the Bazaar Search Window, which allows you to easily locate specific items for sale by Traders in the Bazaar. /trader opens up the Bazaar Vendor window, which allows you to make items available for sale to others in the Bazaar.

You can only use the Bazaar if you have the new interface turned on. See the message above for details.

There is also an interesting section on News from Faydwer:

It is rumored that the major cities of Faydwer have announced a call to arms for all young adventurers. News of mysterious bloodthirsty goblins to the west setting up encampments has prompted all residents of Kaladim, Kelethin and Felwithe to all begin preparing themselves for what they think may be a momentous battle. Intelligence originating from the Scouts of Kaladim and Kelethin has informed their respective leaders of a possible alliance between a mysterious aqua goblin tribe and the Orcs of Clan Crushbone. Due to the possibility of an attack by either or both of these powerful tribes, guildmasters of all cities have begun the training of young soldiers brave enough to heed the call to defend their homeland against all unknown creatures and new inhabitants.

I'll have Ilmarinen the ranger take a trip back home to the Faydark as soon as I can log in today (the login server is incredibly congested right now), and I'll let you know what I can learn about these new foes of Faydwer. This might herald the arrival of newbie armor quests for wood elves at long last, or at the very least something new to fight when you're tired of beating up the Crushbone orcs.

Finally, the optional patch (accessed by clicking the Advanced button on the patch download interface) holds something of great interest to rangers and other woodsy types: the Jaggedpine Forest zone! From what I've heard, this should be a great spot for rangers and druids of low to mid-range levels to hunt in the sort of large, open forest we've all wanted to see for so long. I'll also send Ilmarinen to investigate this new zone (and to ask the Jaggedpine Treefolk where they've been hiding their forest all these years), and I'll let you know what he finds out.

So there you have it: big patches, very interesting, lots of new changes, and even a few exciting new things for the rangers! So get started downloading, folks!

Game Patch - 3:36 AM PDT
July 24, 2002 3:00 am
------------------------------

*** New Interface Available ***

The new EverQuest user interface is now available for use on Live servers. Many of you will find that it runs faster than the old interface. It is extremely customizable, and offers all sorts of features including resizable windows, fading windows, a pet control window, and flexibility through the XML files. We decided to offer it for optional use as a sort of Beta II for folks on the Live servers that haven't had the chance to try it out on the Test server.

To activate the new interface:

* Log into the game.
* Type /newui into the chat bar and hit enter.
* Log out and exit to your desktop and then log back in.

or

* Before you log in:
* Open the EQclient.ini file in your EverQuest folder with a text editor (notepad works fine)
* Find the [Defaults] section of the file
* Add a line that reads: NewUI=TRUE
* Log in

We want to thank all the folks that have helped us test the interface and have offered a wide variety of useful ideas.

Enjoy the interface!

*** Bazaar Now Available ***

Those of you that own Shadows of Luclin now have access to the /bazaar and /trader functions. These functions only work in the Bazaar. You can find the Bazaar on Luclin, adjacent to the Nexus and Shadowhaven.

Again we'd like to thank the folks that helped us test this feature. And we'd like to apologize for the delay in delivery of the Bazaar.

We think that you'll find the finished product to be a good one.

** ViewPort **

One of the new commands available only with the new interface is /viewport. You can use this command to change the size of the gameplay area.

/viewport [distance from left, distance from top, width, height]

All of the distances and numbers for the viewport command are in the same measure as your screen resolution numbers.

For Example: Let's say you are running in 800 x 600 video mode and you want to create view the game only in the top half of your screen (not that you would). You would type:

/viewport 0 0 800 300

The top left of your screen is 0 and 0. 800 is the width of your screen, and the 300 is one half of the height of the screen.

/viewport reset - will reset the viewport to the default setting.

** New Vah Shir Models **

We have developed new models for the Vah Shir for use with the old world. You may now choose to turn off the Luclin version of the Vah Shir models and use these new models if you wish. These new Vah Shir models require less memory and you may want to use them in place of the Luclin models to improve system performance.

** Spells **

- Fixed a bug with the bard songs Warsong and Battlecry of the Vah Shir that caused them to slow you down when used without other haste components. - Fixed a bug with bolt spells that caused double hits due to elevation. Sorry Mages.
- Removed the "Ahhh... I feel much better now!" message from certain spells when the caster is over level 35.
-Removed the reduction in damage to Damage over Time spells when used on NPCs that are moving.
- Mind Wrack will now consider the z-axis when calculating the maximum distance group members can receive the beneficial affects of the spell.
- Song of Sustenance should prevent unnecessary hungry and thirsty messages.
- Bind Affinity can no longer be cast on any ungrouped player in arenas.
- The caster of Voice Graft will once again see what is being said.
- Spells that transfer hit points over time from the caster to a target will no longer take effect on the target (the hit point gainer) if the caster (the hit point giver) isn't also affected by the spell.
- Added a spell effect message to Magician epic.
- Beastlords now get Endure Disease at level 24 and Resist Disease at 51

** Pets **

- Pet Resistance Changes: Pets will now use their master's level and resistances when saving against spells cast by NPCs (against PCs pets will use their own resistances and level as they always have) - unless the pet has special resistances, in which case it will use that resistance.
- Altered pet summoning spells so that they always summon the most powerful pet possible, instead of pets within a 5 level range.
- /pet report health now uses the same user defined color as spell text.
- /pet report health will now display a list of the effects on the pet.
- Mage fire pets should now cast their damage shields more often.
- Wizard, Druid and Cleric pets and familiars can now be buffed by characters other than their owner.

** PvP **

- Fixed a bug on Tallon and Vallon Zek that made player characters in non-human illusions immune to ranged attacks.
- It is no longer possible for PC's to fear other PC's at all on any server. The same was also done for charm.
- Pets can no longer be affected by charm spells. This should fix the issue that caused charm spells to make pets disappear.
- NPCs who are pets of players and call for help from other NPCs will have their cries fall on deaf ears.

** Alternate Advancement **

- Dire Charm will now send a message to inform the caster that the charm has broken by Feign Death.
- Spell Casting Subtlety should work properly for all levels of the ability.

** Zone Specific **

- Corrected a problem with a treasure table in Marus Seru.
- The drakes in SkyShrine should no longer be dropping cloth caps. They should now be producing Drake Eggs. The drakes are very happy about this.
- The mountain lions in Steamfont now have jawbones. They are happier about this than the Drakes are about their eggs.
- Hoshkar should no longer appear as a bag, qualifying him as the happiest of them all.

** Horses **

- Fixed a bug that was allowing characters to change into illegal forms while on horseback, causing some unusual displacement problems. Characters will no longer be able to turn into those illegal forms (elementals, for example) while on a horse.

** Quests **

- Corrected an issue with the Proudfoot Greaves recipe.
- The Vex Thal key quest has been changed slightly. Celestial Rifts will no longer be used to create the key - a new item replaces them called a Planar Rift. Planar Rifts are acquired by defeating the same creature as before, however all future Rifts are going to be No-Drop.

A Celestial Rift can be placed in a forge by itself and 'combined' to create a Planar Rift. Please be aware that the new Planar Rifts are No-Drop, and should only be converted in a forge by the intended owner. Old-style Celestial Rifts may be converted into the new Planar Rifts for a period of one month from this patch. If you have any rifts currently, be sure to convert them to the new style within 30 days.

This change is not intended to make it more difficult or time consuming to acquire your Vex Thal key. Many players had brought forth concerns regarding the ability to hoard Celestial Rifts, which had the potential of causing some long-term issues. This fix addresses those concerns, and does not add any difficulty for players currently working on this quest.

** Items **

- Shissar-bane bows should be working.
- Irontoes Tipped Beer Stein should now look like a stein rather than a bag when equipped.
- The Intricate Shield can now be used by Dwarves, High Elves, Iksar, Vah Shir, Barbarians and Half Elves.
- Imbued Steelsilk Helms now have plate graphics.
- Large Fine Plate Boots can now be worn by Bards.
- Crustacean Shell Helm now has a graphic.
- Pickbringer's Chainmail Boots are now wearable by Gnomes.
- Forged Firebrand Halberd now has a halberd graphic rather than an axe graphic. Also, because it is a two-handed slashing weapon, it can no longer be used by Bards.

** Dialogues **

There were a few NPCs that were not responding properly to their quest text. This has been fixed for the following NPCs: Wizard Schrock, Seamey Whirewhisker, Oglard, Morgalanth Tal`Raeloen, Verona Rankin, Gunex, Waltor Felligan, Nallar Q`Tentu, Lord Nethryn and Cilin Spellsinger.

** Miscellaneous **

- NPCs no longer have a chance to break root when being healed or buffed.
- /split no longer has a chance to cause a loss of coins if done while a group member is gating.

** Grouping **

We have revamped the grouping system. This is a major rewrite of the system that should have little effect on gameplay, with the exception of removing the bugs with the old system. Players should no longer have issues with their group due to the link-death of any member (including the leader), zoning and other such issues. There is also a new command available.

/makeleader - The leader of the group can now reassign who the leader of the group is by use of this command.

*** News from Faydwer ***

*** Call to Arms ***

Tarlain moved along through the tunnel at a brisk pace, a wistful smile painting his weathered features. His arm reached out from under his travel stained greatcloak so that his hand could traced the side wall of granite while his mind recalled the many times he had passed through this tunnel in his youth. It had been many years since and the memories of his training in the woodland ways within the environs of Surefall glade filled him with a peaceful nostalgia.

This nostalgia all but vanished as Tarlain rounded the final curve and broke into the tree filtered sunlight of Surefall Glade and beheld a most unexpected sight - a line of Qeynos foot soldiers marching past the Ranger hall and on toward the far end of the Glade. What could bring the forces of Qeynos here? Knowing this could not bode well, Tarlain strode quickly to the Ranger hall, his eyes on the receding backs of the footmen.

Reaching the main hall entrance, Tarlain's sight latched on to a proclamation inked in the flowing hand of a Qeynos scribe and bearing the seal of Antonius IV. It outlined the rising threat of Blackburrow Gnolls invading and despoiling the previously sequestered Jaggedpine Forest. Because of this danger Antonius has lifted his father's ruling to protect those forests and now calls for able-bodied men and militia to join in quelling the expansion of the vile Gnolls. Gritting his teeth at the thought of Gnolls invading the pristine woodlands, Tarlain turned and with a hand on his longsword, set off to catch up with the guardsmen and throw in his lot against the dogs of Blackburrow.

(Note: Jaggedpine Forest is only available by using the optional files download option in the advanced section of the EverQuest patcher. Be aware that the download required for this new zone is relatively large.)

Looks good to me, rather large though took me a couple minutes to download on a cable

EverQuest CastersRealm has posted the following on their site:
As part of tomorrows patch the first Legends zone since its inception will be made available to public serves.
Jaggedpine Forest is located off Surefall Glade and is a low to mid level play zone.
The source of this information is unknown. So we will just have to wait and see if this is true or not.

Update: When you run the EQ patch program it does download the Jaggedpine zone files onto your computer. So it looks as if Jaggedpine Forest may go live tomorrow!

The smell of fresh Faydark pine and dwarven-hewn stone warms your senses as you stroll through the new Stratics halls, sipping from the fresh ale you acquired from the Westwood Tavern . Your armor rings as you step, as comforting a sound as the weight of your weapon in it's sheath. Passing several doors in the corridor, each marked in fresh and ornate carvings, you see the names of other realms, occupations as well as races and trades.

You come to the door that you've sought and reach for the handle, gently pushing it ajar...

Online Games Teaming Up?
Return to TopSubmit News!Comment on this article
CommunityNews - 8:41 PM PDT
Gamespot.com has posted an article about what will happen to future online games:
While I'd like to see all these games succeed, there are too many factors that point to a massive collapse. First, even taking into account the growth in the market over the next few years, there are a finite number of people who will be interested in the typical fantasy role-playing game, and there are already some good choices with a huge head start on any competition that will be coming out in the coming year or so. Second, the games themselves are set up to almost guarantee that players won't play more than one or two. Most people don't have the time or the dedication to devote four or five hours a day to a game for months on end, and those who do have even less time to devote to a second game.

EQ2 Stratics Launches!
Return to TopSubmit News!Comment on this article
Stratics Network Announcement - 3:35 PM PDT
Sylvene, the project manager of the long anticipated Everquest 2 Stratics site, has sent us this email informing us of the launching of the site:

Greetings!

We are proud to present the grand opening of the newest Stratics web site, EverQuest II Stratics! This new web site will contain news and information for this highly anticipated new title.

"It is here that time begins. Yes, it is true; there have been other events of far greater significance. The sky itself has rained down upon us! Temples lie in ruins. Empires have crumbled, continents lost. These great events and many more, both terrible and wondrous, have taken place since last we spoke and I am sure there are many more of equal import on the horizon. But, it is here that time begins. It is here that hope begins. It is here that the future of Qeynos, nay, the future of Norrath, will be written. I pray it is not scribed in blood."

-Antonius Bayle IV, Lord of the Great City of Qeynos

The game is expected to offer a wide variety of exciting new changes. Here is a quote directly from Verant's overview of the new title:

EverQuest II returns to the rich and culturally diverse world of Norrath. Users will be able to select from a wide variety of both new and old races, as well as an exciting new class system when creating their character. Significant improvements to combat, spell and quest mechanics promise to immerse players even more so than the original. In addition to the new mechanics, users will be able to own real estate, participate in and conduct gladiatorial and theatrical events, as well as have the ability to command horses, ships and other such modes of transport. At release, players will be able to equip thousands of items and encounter hundreds of unique creatures, all within a world so large that it literally eclipses the original Norrath in size.

Please be sure to visit our new site to learn all about EverQuest II. Stop by the forums and discuss the development of the game with other EverQuest and EverQuest II players. If you have any questions about this new site, please feel free to contact us! We'd love to hear from you!

Gneen sent us a note about his Gnomish call to arms:
Calling all Gnomes to the Firiona Vie Server!
July 30th ... 7:00 Central Time
Roll up a Gnome and Help Defend Ak'Anon!

Background:

Baron Apep (Leader Ebon Storm; Dark Elf) has married
Charizma Silvertongue (Officer Tinker's Pride; Gnome) and
they are now Mr. and Mrs. Sadisticdream.
However, all is not well and the Baron has now vowed to destroy
Ak'Anon - the homeland of his bride - on Tuesday July 30th at 07:30 CST.

http://pub94.ezboard.com/ffirionaviefrm10.showMessage?topicID=365.topic

The Plan:

We gnomes have little hope of defending our homeland without
a lot of help from other lands. If you've never visited the
Firiona Vie server, roll up a gnome and start him in Ak'Anon
in time for the fun. If nothing else, you'll help Verant load test!

Thanks for your consideration.

The Ranger - 6:09 PM PDT
Greetings all, and welcome to the new Ranger Class Portal! I'll be your guide through this slightly muddy corner of the EverQuest Stratics world. In the coming weeks, I'll be bringing you news, guides, and the like... and hopefully a few of you will want to do the same! We also have a fascinating new plan in the works, one that will provide a way for people (and not just Stratics staff) to post their tales of adventure and strategies for advancement here in the Ranger Portal.

If you have any questions or comments, would like to help out around here, or just want to say hi (or ask me to shoot that pesky orc who’s been chasing you across the Faydark), you have a fair assortment of ways to contact me. You can email me, post or send me a private message through the Ranger Forum, send me a small scribbled note via carrier pigeon, or look for me in EverQuest, where I play the ranger Ilmarinen on the Karana server.

And for now, don't mind the mess. As a ranger you'll have to get used to a little mud. It's in the job description.

Pet Resist Changes
Return to TopSubmit News!Comment on this article
GeneralNews - 4:31 PM PDT
Rich Waters posted on a few forums about some changes being made to Pet Resists:
Hi,

We've had a change up on Test for about a week, and I wanted to share it with you guys and see what you think. Here's the basis of the change -

When a pet is hit with a spell, it uses the resistances and level of it's owner to see if it resists the spell.

This means that if you're a level 60 magician for instance and you've got on various buffs and gear that raise your resistances, your pet will save vs. spells as if it was also level 60 with your exact resistance scores.

Using the owner's level is going to make a huge difference in how well the pet resists harmful spells, and should make a noticeable difference in how well the pets can survive AEs for instance. Allowing the pet to also benefit from your items and buffs means that it will be living a lot longer when fighting casters.

There is a drawback to this, although I think the good outweighs the bad. If we go with this new scheme, it will mean that the pet always uses the owner's saves. Some types of pets currently are highly resistant to poison or disease for instance. Going with the new scheme would mean they will potentially not resist those types of spells as well, depending on the owner's resistances.

Overall, this change would mean that pets are much more resistant the vast majority of the time. I think this would be a very positive change for pet classes, but I'd like to see what people think before we go ahead with it.

Thanks for your time,

- Rich
Absor also commented on the issue:
Dear Mr Absor
I am writing this in hope of a response to my question..

With the upcoming changes to pets that Mr Rich posted about on the mage/necro class boards, i am left wondering that although the changes will be benefical in some aspects, i am puzzled about this:

Will pets lose there (near) immunity to spells of same type eg. Fire pet getting hit with fire spell...
Because if thats the case this is a bad bad change, some mobs (like the one in CoM) REQUIRE fire pets because of the nasty fire AE it casts which can kill players in seconds.

Although i genurally like the changes this is puzzling me, will the pets lose there immunity

Sinceraly...
Atermis
Atermis Entreri
50th Magician
Innoruuk Server

All of this is still in testing, so when all is said and done none of it, part of it or all of it may go Live.

Right now it’s working like this.

Summoned pets will use his owner’s resists and level against NPC spells unless the pet has a natural resistance that makes them immune or mostly so. Note: This only affects summoned pets and it will no affect spells cast by PCs - we don’t want to make a change that might dramatically change PvP until we know more about the effect it might have.

For example, fire elemental pets have incredibly high fire resistance, but low resistance to other type of magic. If someone tries to cast a fire-based spell on this pet, it will use its innate fire resistance because it's so high. If someone tries to cast a poison spell on the pet, it will use it's owner's current poison resistance score instead.

We’ve also added a bit more information to the /pet report health function. It will list the pet’s current effects along with its health.

And what’s with the Mr. Absor? My dad is called… no, wait, he isn’t. He’s called Mr. VanCouvering…

Oh well.

Alan

So what do you think of the new changes? They are only on Test Server so they may or may not go live.

It's had an excellent few weeks overall on the Test Server and we'll be running it on the Live servers in an optional mode until we're satisfied with it. We'll give details about how to turn these options on in the patch message.

I asked Absor if the 10% healing penalty would be removed in the patch:
The 10% thing may or may not go Live, we only just started testing it and we'll decide that later. You can expect a bunch of bug fixes and the usual stuff...
I also asked him if there would be any other update to caster balancing in the next patch. He couldn't give a clear answer but he did say "there might be a few interesting things in the next patch." It looks like it will be a great patch! Share your thoughts on it in our forums!

Translocator Gnomes!

GeneralNews - 9:24 PM PDT
In case some of you haven't noticed, the boats have been removed and new Translocator Gnomes are in their place. My guess is that this is a "temporary" solution to the faulty boats which plauged the Land. The Gnome Pirates have left their boats and are holding positions at the following docks:
South Qeynos
Erudin
Erud's Crossing
East Freeport
OOT
Butcherblock
N.Ro
Iceclad
Oasis
Firiona Vie

If you are KoS to your destination's docks you may want to /petition instead to avoid death. Here's the Hail dialouge:
Translocator Fithop says 'Hello there, Cosmoo. There seem to be some strange problems with the boats in this area. The Academy of Arcane Sciences has sent a small team of us to investigate them. If you need to [travel to Ocean of Tears] in the meantime, I can transport you to my companion there.'

Caster Balance Not Forgotten
Return to TopSubmit News!Comment on this article
GeneralNews - 7:42 PM PDT
Absor posted on The Druid's Grove about their plans for caster balancing. Here's his full post:
I wanted to make a brief comment about caster balance. Unfortunately for those that are anxious to see the changes completed, we’re going to insist that this be a slow process. Introducing a lot of balance changes at one time isn’t a good idea. We want to keep the number of changes at one time small so that we can judge their effect without too much overlap.

So while everyone, including us, wants to see the “end” of this caster balancing thing, we don’t want to rush to get there without careful evaluation of each change. Please be patient with the process.

We certainly haven’t forgotten to look at the priest classes. With the next patch to Test we will be removing the 10% penalty to healing from non-clerics. Clerics will still get the 5% bonus at all levels, and will still get their heal spells many levels earlier that the other priests.

We want to see how this plays out on Test, obviously, before we consider moving it Live, and before we consider other changes to the priest classes. This is the Test server, so you should neither expect the change to go Live, nor assume that it won’t. Right now it’s there to be tested, and whether it does or does not go Live will be dependent on what we discover on Test.

We are also looking at some changes to help to make clerics be a little more well-rounded, along with addressing some concerns put forth by druids and shamans. Those ideas are still in the development stage, and we’ll talk more about them when we get done looking at the healing changes.

Thanks for your patience with us on this.

Why the fascination with the EQ Tradeskills?

I'm a person who has always enjoyed the feeling of creation. I've been actively making handicrafts for most of my life, and have been writing short stories and poems since I discovered RPGs in high school. No matter how much one plays per month, the price is fixed. This "persistent" online game — meaning all events continue even after individual players log off — has proved addictive for many, earning its nickname: "EverCrack." In fact, EverQuest addiction has raised renewed concerns in the media. Shawn Woolley, 21 recently shot himself in an apparent suicide after reportedly playing the game for up to 12 hours a day. Character Accountability

Scott Hartsman stopped by the official forums to let us know that the name change registry was still being planned and implemented.

Here's his post:

No need to panic, friends. :)

The name change registry is going ahead as planned, it's just taking a little longer than we'd like.

This was a simple miscommunication between departments, nothing sinister at all.

Please believe me when I say that those of us who make our living ensuring the integrity of EverQuest wouldn't intentionally do anything to hurt that integrity.

...especially in these times when we're so focused on restoring as much faith as we can with things such as:

more changes than ever based off of player feedback and suggestions
more customizability via the new UI
longer testing cycles to help out with stability
...and more reasonable development goals to keep from over-reaching.
Unfortunately, a symptom of some of these is that there are things that do take longer than they might have before, but it's all because we want to do what's right and what's best -- not the other way around.

We honestly have no desire to shoot ourselves in either or both feet where we can avoid it. ;)

Best,

Scott Hartsman

fanstory.com Monthly Results!
Return to TopSubmit News!Comment on this article
CommunityNews - 7:01 PM PDT
The latest results are in! Unfortunately an EQ story didn't take the gold this month, but they are good stories nonethless.

The Last Full
Measure of Honor
is based on a true story from the American civil war.

Usually the voters reward fantasy and science fiction stories. In fact, last
month The Story of the Month contest voters picked an Everquest story. This
story, unique for the contest, stood out and grabbed the title with a
comfortable lead.

But Alisdair,
the author of the story, is no stranger to this contest. In fact, this is his
fourth win.

An Excerpt:

"General," the young man coming out from the house spoke quietly, but with an
undeniable energy. "A letter from his wife has just been delivered." There
was no need to ask who "he" was. The death had been the topic of conversation
in every household in the nation for two days now. But a letter from the
    widow was certainly unexpected.

General Joseph E. Johnston took the offered envelope from his grandson David
with the slow deliberation of age and infirmity. Heavy buff paper with a
black border. He lifted it slightly and David, hovering anxiously, took it
and tore it open, handing the letter inside back to the old man. The
General’s eyes took their time bringing the message into focus:

"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of General William
    Tecumseh Sherman . . ."

There was more, but he could no longer see the paper. The jumbled flood of
vague images suddenly crystallized in a way only possible for the old when
recalling their past. He was there again, with Sherman. It was more real than
    reality.

A Gathering In The Fog
A group of robed figures cuts through the dense fog that fills the corridors surrounding the library. At this hour the night air smells of fog and the harbor that cradles the immaculate white city. Another gray-clad shape emerges from the portal, silhouetted by its blue luminescence. The figure glides down the stairs and nods at a passing sentinel as he makes eye contact with him and smiles. He then quickly makes his way into the structure that stands before the portal. The carved marble sign mounted to the wall of the structure is legible in the faint blue light of the portal: "Temple of Divine Light."

IGNPC: But Planes of Power seems more suited to retaining existing players (those who are bumping up against the experience cap) than enlarging the market by bringing in new players. Does it have much significance for low-level players?

Shawn Lord: We're focusing on the high-end player, but we're throwing in some things that'll make life easier for low-level players and help them get around and experience content. We're doing that with the portal system that we're adding to the Plane of Knowledge. That first plane will be available to players of all level and they can use it to get around from every newbie city to every other newbie city. It'll help them determine whether or not they like their race-class combination, because they'll be exposed to other areas quicker.

Brad McQuaid sent me an email about an article at Salon.com. Here's a portion of it:
Most of these games will fail for several prosaic reasons -- not the least of which is an unavoidable fact of life: The hardcore gamers who make these games successful can usually obsess over only one game at a time. There are only so many hours in a week, after all, and MMORPGs are nothing if not massively time-consuming. (For this very reason, says Cole, "I think there is room for only a handful of these games in each genre.") And because many gamers have long since established a social network on established MMORPGs, it's unclear how these new titles can lure them away.

Myles Weissleder sent us an email about the First International EverQuest MeetUp Day:

The first-ever International EverQuest MEETUP Day is Thursday, July 25@7:00 PM!
MEETUPs are informal, local, face-to-face gatherings where EverQuest
players of all types can talk about all-things-EverQuest ... AND make new friends in the process.

All MEETUPs are FREE and are happening in over 500 cities WORLDWIDE!

We've tried to make it easy by picking some good MEETUP spots for this event, including local cafes, restaurants, and stores.

Click here to go to the website. Seems like a pretty good idea.

New MMORPG Study
Return to TopSubmit News!Comment on this article
CommunityNews - 2:48 PM PDT
Nick Yee sent us the following:
A new online presentation is now available.

Using player-submitted stories, "Mosaic" is a presentation on how the virtual lives and identities of MMORPG players can affect their real lives and identities in both positive and negative ways.

The presentation for "Mosaic" can be found at:

http://www.nickyee.com/mosaic/home.html

You can find all my other presentations at:

http://www.nickyee.com/hub/home.html

Nick
Here is an excerpt:
It's easy to think of the worlds created by MMORPGs as independent entities, far removed and isolated from the real, tangible world. You hear the phrase "It's just a game" both from the insiders and the outsiders. There are players who use the phrase to assert that the game is benign and a new technological past-time. And there are outsiders who use the phrase to question why people would do silly things, such as get married or sell virtual items, in a make-believe world.

Looks like an interesting read!

No ETA On UI and Bazaar Yet
Return to TopSubmit News!Comment on this article
GeneralNews - 2:27 PM PDT
I asked Absor if he had any idea on when the Bazaar and UI would go live. Here's what he had to say:
No eta yet. We're pretty much waiting for the Test server players to break it real good so we can fix it, then we'll put it Live. I'm not sure how long that will take.

Alan
He also made a post in EQ Developers Corner about it:
Baalz wrote:
How long are you planning on testing the new interface on the test server? Do you have any aprox time to when you are to release it on all servers?

I tried it out the other day and its so very good. This is the best thing that ever hapened to EQ, even better then Luclin!

Well thanks!

We don’t have an estimate for the release of the UI or the Bazaar. Right now we’re working on fixing any remaining bugs and features. Keep beating it up and sending us bugs and feature requests and we’ll get it ready as fast as we can.

Alan
Hopefully it won't take to long.

EverQuest To Go Worldwide
Return to TopSubmit News!Comment on this article
GeneralNews - 6:08 PM PDT
GamePro.com posted an article about SOE's plans to go global with EverQuest:
Sony Online Entertainment officially announced plans to expand EverQuest worldwide today, releasing versions of the online RPG in five languages before the end of the year. The plan was unveiled by Mario Tokoro, the company's vice chief technology officer, who was speaking yesterday at an Internet event in Tokyo.

Although Tokoro didn't specify which languages SOE will translate EverQuest into, he stated that Korean will definitely be one of them. Both Japan and South Korea have small but dedicated cells of EverQuest fans, a surprising fact considering that the game's only been available in English up to now. There are currently an estimated 430,000 EverQuest players registered around the world, mostly centered in the U.S.; Sony's language expansion will likely cause that figure to balloon in the next year or so.
Looks like good news for our international crowd!

Dynamic New Trade Federation on Karana
Return to TopSubmit News!Comment on this article
Karana - 10:19 PM PDT
Tithonus Arcanus of the Karana server has announced the Norrathian Trade Federation:
Greetings Tradesmen of Karana!

As many of you know, the Karana server is one of the few original
servers to open in 1999, and since then the Karana economy has developed and
blossomed to the bustling and busy state it is in today.

My name is Tithonus Arcanus and I am pleased to announce the creation
of a new Guild/Community Organization for the Karana server called the
Norrathian Trade Federation. Our goal is to preserve and enforce the
legendary Karana economy, and in doing so help those new players who
cannot afford what they desire to create savings accounts with us that will
accumulate interest. We will operate and function like a normal guild,
but we will also host a Karana Community trading forum online, similar
to the one hosted by KCoG, but more specific to the needs and wants of
the tradesmen of Norrath.

Anybody who plays on Karana can become a local member of the forum
simply by posting, no applications are needed for use of the trading
categories. On the site the Karana community can trade or sell items, quests
or services to each other, or browse items quest opportunities and
services that the Trade Federation will be offering players of Karana.

If you would like to begin posting on the Forum, or just browse! (The
more participants the better!) You can check us out at:

Thank you for your time and happy trading!

-Tithonus Arcanus
Leader of the NTF
Proud citizen of Karana
Looks like a great idea!

New Interface/Bazaar Review
Return to TopSubmit News!Comment on this article
GeneralNews - 10:18 AM PDT
Today I had so free time before work so I’d figure I should log onto Test Server and check out the new Interface and Bazaar.
After about five minutes of patching I reached the New and Improved Character Selection Screen. One word, “Wow!”. You choose your characters in a small 3D castle where you can walk around and choose who you want to play. Or you can just scroll through them. This is a huge improvement over the original Character Selection Screen.
Character Creation screen is still the same. No fuss there though. I decided to make a Gnome as my little guinea pig. I made my way through Steamfont and crept through Lesser Faydark. I arrived at the Spires in Greater Faydark and found I wasn’t the only one going to test out the Bazaar. While waiting for the ride up I went through most of the windows of the new UI.

-The windows are much more cleaner and user-friendly. The new friends list and pet attack windows are spiffy too. And even if you don’t like them it is all skinnable. Here is a screenshot.
-Along with the rest of the windows the Alternate Advancment Window got a face-lift.
-The new and improved spell book now contains 8 spell slots per page. There is also a shortcut to the spellbook under your spell lineup. So no need for another hotkey.
-Viewing your skills also has become easier. Instead of only knowing your amount of points in a certain skill when you reach 100 in it, the new skill window shows it no matter what your skill level.
-The only downside to the new interface I think is the inventory arrangement. It is just to unorganized and will take some getting used to. But it is all customizable. An upside to that is you can now enter quantity and coin amounts in numerical form instead of the crummy scroll bar.
-Lastly, the options menu got a well-needed upgrade. All the categories are on tabs and very organized.

The Nexus finally activates and I am beamed to the Moon. After a brief lag spike from all the bodies running around I head to the Bazaar.

-Now when you zone into the Bazaar you are greeted with the standard welcome message plus it also displays how many traders are in the zone and also how many items total. It also gives you the two basic commands to start trading.

-First I give the /bazaar command a try. I am welcomed with a nice window that lets me sort all the items in the Bazaar to what I am looking for. Search options are Race, stats, class, Item Name, and Player Name. When you do a query it shows the Item Name, Price, and the Seller. It doesn’t display the stats though. To purchase an item just find the merchant and right-click on them. That will bring up the merchant window that is the same as the NPC Merchant windows. Simple as that. No more than 3 people can look at a Trader’s inventory at a time. So if you happen to get the “I am busy now” message just hang tight and keep trying.

-Selling your items is a bit tricky but easy once you know what your doing. First thing you have to do is buy a Trading Satchel from the Merchant (can’t remember his name now but when you zone in from Nexus run past the bankers to the next building and he is the one behind the desk.) It costs around 1pp. Thanks to Dankuo of the Tundra I had enough coin to buy me one. I also bought a rusty dagger, wasp wing, and split paw tunic to use as my uber loot. Next thing you do is just place the items you are selling into the Satchel. After you have done that type /trader. This will bring up the Vendor Window. On the right it will show you what items you have in the satchel. Keep in mind that No Drop items won’t show up. This is where I got stuck. I clicked on my Rusty Dagger and highlighted it, but then all the other buttons grayed out. Rottenrumps on “Gnomish Corner” gave me a hand. You then have to set the price with the coin buttons then you will be able to use the "Set Price" button. After that it’s easy. You must be in one of the tent stalls to begin selling your wares. Then just set the prices of all your items and then hit “Begin Trader”.

I didn’t experience any bugs but it was a tad laggy in the Bazaar. The new interface and Bazaar look great to me. I can’t wait till they go Live. Go give it a try yourself!

The folks over at Guru of 3D have posted an interview with EverQuest Alumni & current Sigil Games Online CEO & President, Brad McQuaid. Here is a small snipit:

Guruof3D: How detailed do you vision the next generation of MMOG's? For instance, do you think it can become so advanced now as to see Non Player Characters going through daily activities during the day, possibly sleeping at night? More or less doing more than just walking a path.

Brad McQuaid: Absolutely. I think you’ll see significant advances in NPC AI and I think you’ll see worlds that are much larger and detailed. You’ll also see environments that start to become dynamic… where the player will be able to truly leave his mark on the world.

Bazaar Functionality on Test Server

The Test Server is back up from it's recent downtime. The long awaited Baazar Functions are in as well:
For those of you with a little free time, you might want to log into Test and try out the Bazaar.
We’ve got the functionality in. Now we need your feedback and bug reports.

If you see something broken or if you have an idea for an improvement, you can send them to the Dev Corner (or use /bug for bugs).

Thanks for helping us out. We hope you like it.

Here is the Patch Message to those who venture onto the Test Server:

** Wednesday, July 03 2002.

** LET THE BAZAAR TESTING BEGIN! **

VENDORS:

- First, create or purchase from Trader Satchels from an NPC merchant in the bazaar.
- Second, place tradable items in the bags.
- At this time you can type /trader and begin setting prices on the items you wish to sell.
- Once you have some prices set and you wish to open shop, you must go to a trading area. These are the rows of tents in the bazaar.
- Click Begin Trader. At this time people will be able to buy from you.

BUYERS:

- To search the bazaar for items for sale, type /bazaar
- To purchase from a player merchant, right click on them as if you were buying from an NPC vendor.

NOTES:

- The bazaar only works in the new user interface! For instructions on how to switch over to the new UI, please see the notes at the bottom of this file.
- You can only be a trader in the trading stalls (rows of tents).
- The name over your head will change slightly when in trading mode.
- The prices that you set for items are stored in your EQ directory. The next time you attempt to sell the same item, the bazaar will assume that you want to use similar pricing until you say otherwise.
- When you close up shop, anyone viewing your current stock will automatically end trading with you.

** CHANGES **

Sorry about the random NPC bugs. It was all one bug.

- The EverQuest Development Team

After months of anticipation, the Bazaar draws nearer! Go take a look!
